SHARP benefits
The company that accompanies and improves the lives of people all over the world, thanks to its thousands of much-loved products.
Plasmacluster
SHARP's unique Plasmacluster technology neutralizes airborne bacteria and viruses, deactivates and eliminates airborne mould and other contaminants.
1 Ions are diffused
Plasmacluster ions are identical to the positive and negative ions found in nature. These ions are surrounded by water molecules and released into the air. Because they are surrounded by water molecules, the ions have a long life * 3.
2 Ions stick to allergens and mold in suspension
The ions create highly oxidizing OH radicals which stick to the surfaces of molds or viruses. The ions immediately remove hydrogen from surface proteins, eventually destroying the contaminants.
3 Return to air as water/moisture
OH radicals combine with hydrogen (H) to create water (H2O), which naturally returns to the air.
The benefits of Plasmacluster
Mould deactivation
Mould spores are carried on clothing and in the air, and can trigger an allergic reaction if inhaled. Sharp's long-lasting HEPA filter catches 99.97% of airborne particles (including mold spores) as small as 0.3 microns.
Allergen deactivation
Sharp's air purifiers, and especially the models incorporating a humidifier, help to remove airborne dust and pollen from the rooms in your home; these two substances are responsible for around 80% of all allergy-related illnesses.
Virus deactivation
Sharp Plasmacluster ion technology mobilizes negative and positive ions to actively seek out and deactivate viruses - including flu and cold viruses - all year round, but especially in autumn and winter.
Odor reduction
Equipped with a heavy-duty pre-filter and activated carbon filter, Sharp air purifiers help eliminate most indoor odors (including garbage, bathroom, smoke and pets).
The Plasmacluster in action
Long coada shutter
Applying fluid mechanics, the long diffuser panel and air guide of SHARP air conditioners allow air to travel up to 49 feet (15 m). They direct warm air downwards during heating, sending it to the floor. They direct cool air upwards during cooling, dispersing it throughout the room. And because the air doesn't blow directly onto the room's occupants, heating and cooling comfort is assured.
The long diffuser flap *2 opens from both top and bottom
1 SHARP's patented airflow control technology won the 2008 Fluid Mechanics Technology Award from the Japanese Society of Fluid Mechanics.
2 Even when it's -15°C (5°F) outside, the inside temperature is a comfortable 35°C (95°F) at your feet.
These data are collected using the AY-F40K2 model in the SHARP test laboratory (23 m2) with an outside temperature of -15°C (5°F) and the heater set to 32°C (89.6°F) with a stable ambient temperature. Temperature distribution varies according to environment and operating conditions.
Multi-part function
The "Multi-Space" button keeps several rooms at a comfortable temperature. This function provides continuous ventilation to circulate warm or cool air evenly and gently to every corner of the home.
Note: This mode is available for TU SERIES and THU SERIES. The effect of this function may vary depending on the room layout, the unit's mounting position and the insulation level of the affected space.
1 Rotating shutter pivots up to 180°.
From the center, the damper can be rotated through approximately 180°, generating an air current that is conducive to heating and cooling. The angle of the shutter can also be adjusted at your convenience using the remote control.
Hot gas pipe system
The ZHU Series and ZU Series outdoor units have been designed to deliver comforting heat down to -27°C, lower than any other model on the market. SHARP's "HOT GAS PIPE" system checks that all condensation holes are free of ice to ensure proper defrost flow without affecting energy efficiency.
1 Unique to SHARP
Residual heat moves through the pipe to prevent the outdoor unit from freezing from below.
R-32 gas
SHARP works actively to protect the environment by reducing greenhouse gases.
Refrigerant R32 | Environmentally friendly
1 What is R-32?
R-32 is a new-generation refrigerant that transports heat efficiently with minimal environmental impact.
2
Although there are different types of refrigerant, R-32 is the new refrigerant that is currently attracting the most interest. Because R-32 transports heat efficiently, it can reduce electricity consumption by up to 10% compared with heat pumps using R-22 refrigerant. What's more, compared with the refrigerants widely used today, such as R-22 and R-410A, R-32 has a global warming potential (GWP) 1/3 lower, and stands out for its low environmental impact.
WI-FI option
Control your unit anywhere in your home, simply from your smartphone.
De-icer
When the heat exchanger is used to defrost the unit, a hot gas is fed to the heat exchanger's condensation tray. This prevents the drain water from freezing, and the water is easily drained away through the drain holes in the condensation tray.
1 Defrosting adapted to North American climates
To optimize defrosting of the outdoor unit, the "PRE-WARM" function raises the indoor temperature a few moments before defrosting. In addition, SHARP uses two defrost modes: "RAPID DEFROST" or "DEFROST".
2
These types of defrost are used on SHARP units installed in Nordic countries. Together, these functions ensure optimal unit operation and deliver a range of enhanced performances.
Drain holes
1 Multiple drainage holes
Water freezing in the outdoor unit is often the cause of malfunctions in winter. To avoid this situation, SHARP has improved the drainage system by equipping the outdoor unit's condensation tray with several drainage holes. Plugs to cover these holes are also included with the unit when used in warmer climates, where water is drained away via a drain pipe.
4-direction scan
1
Automatic control of horizontal, vertical, left side and right side airflow is available to make the room uniformly warm or cool.
Self-cleaning function
Plasmacluster ions minimize mold growth inside the air conditioner
1
The unit's 40-minute recirculation cycle propels Plasmacluster ions inside the unit. This prevents and inhibits the growth of odour-causing moulds on air exchanger surfaces (Note: Moulds already present cannot be removed).
2
Test method: Measurements taken in SHARP laboratories using model AY-P28XC (Japanese model). Tests carried out at an outdoor/ambient temperature of 27°C and a humidity level of 70%, over a cycle consisting of one hour's operation in cooling mode. During a 40-minute internal cleaning cycle and 20 minutes with the unit off. These tests were carried out over 14 days (40 cycles). Visual mold sensor manufactured by the Institute for Environmental Biology.
Nature wing
In general, we use the concept of "aircraft wings" for better airflow control, and draw inspiration from aerodynamics to improve our products. Although aerodynamics is ideal for moving large objects, we came to the conclusion that bird and insect wings are better models for the size of our products. Hence the idea for Nature Wing.
1 Quantity comparison
Comparison of the amount of electricity used to push the same airflow between an ordinary model and one using the dragonfly wing design.
2 SHARP comparison
Comparison of the amount of electricity used to push the same airflow between an ordinary fan and a fan using the bird-wing design.
3
Fan blades in the shape of golden eagle and albatross wings are used on models AE-X15PU, AE-X18PU, AE-X24PU and AE-X4M30PU.
4
Dragonfly wing-shaped fan blades are used on all models.
